Access to legal knowledge and community support should not depend on how much money you have or how many legal terms you already know.

Lewis Legacy Law Studio believes that understanding the basics - spotting a legacy issue before it becomes a crisis, knowing what a document means before you sign it, understanding your options before someone else decides for you - is something everyone deserves access to.

This page is for the older youth navigating instability who needs support. And for the community, organization, or individual who simply wants to know more.

About Nisey’s Nurture Network

Nisey's Nurture Network is for older youth and young adults who are figuring out a lot - possibly without much help around them. This might be you if you are staying in a shelter or transitional housing, dealing with unstable housing, navigating public benefits on your own, trying to understand documents or paperwork that feel overwhelming, or just going through a major life change without a lot of steady adult support in your corner.

You do not have to have everything figured out to reach out. That is kind of the point.

NNN is intentionally small. Keeping it that way means we can be honest and careful about who we take on and what we can offer - rather than overpromising and underdelivering. We will tell you clearly what we can help with and what falls outside of what we are able to do.

Legal Guidance Through Lewis Legacy Law Studio

For eligible youth and young adults, limited free legal guidance may be available through Lewis Legacy Law Studio. Here is what you need to know before reaching out.

NNN IS NOT A GUARANTEED LEGAL REPRESENTATION PROGRAM

This means that just because you reach out does not mean you will automatically have a lawyer. Legal help through NNN is limited - there are only so many people we can work with at one time.

Before any legal guidance can begin, there is a process we have to go through to make sure we are the right fit for your situation. We will always let you know where things stand. If we cannot help you, we will do our best to point you somewhere that can.

BEFORE LEGAL GUIDANCE CAN BEGIN

There are a few steps before any legal guidance starts.

First, we review what you shared to make sure this is something we are able to help with.

We also check for conflicts; this means we make sure there is no reason we cannot work with you. For example, if Lewis Legacy Law Studio has ever worked with someone on the other side of your situation, we may not be able to help you directly. That is not a judgment - it is a rule that protects you.

We also make sure we have the capacity to take it on at that time. Legal guidance through Nisey's Nurture Network is limited and not always immediately available.

If everything checks out, you will receive a short written agreement explaining exactly what we can help with before anything begins. That agreement protects you; it puts in writing what we will do and what we will not do, so there are no surprises.

Filling out a form is not a commitment, does not mean you’ve locked us in as your attorney, and does not obligate you to anything. It simply lets us know you reached out; and we will follow up to let you know what comes next.

WHAT LEGAL GUIDANCE MAY INCLUDE

For eligible youth, limited legal guidance may be available through Lewis Legacy Law Studio. This may include:

  • Plain-language explanation of documents, notices, or forms. If something landed in your hands that feels confusing, overwhelming, or written in a way that does not make sense, we can help you understand what it says, what it means, and what it may be asking of you. You do not need to know legal words to ask for help with this.

  • Help understanding public benefits paperwork. This includes programs like SNAP, Medicaid, Cash Assistance, and similar programs. If you are trying to apply, renew, or understand something connected to your benefits and the paperwork feels like a lot, we can help you make sense of it.

  • Guidance on turning 18 legal documents. When you turn 18, some important things change legally. There are documents that may help you protect your rights and make sure the people you trust can still support you when you need them.
    This may include questions about:
    HIPAA authorizations - which allow trusted people to access your medical information;
FERPA waivers - which relate to your school records; and
Power of attorney questions - which have to do with who can make decisions on your behalf if you ever need that.

  • Help organizing your questions before an appointment. If you have a meeting coming up with an agency, a provider, a caseworker, or another organization and you are not sure what to ask or how to ask it - we can help you figure that out before you walk in the door.

  • Guidance on whether another provider may be a better fit. Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is help you figure out that someone else is better positioned to help you - and then help connect you to them. If that is the case, we will tell you clearly and make that referral as warm and specific as possible.

WHICH LEGAL SERVICES ARE NOT COVERED

It is important to understand what this service can and cannot do, so there are no surprises.

  • This service does not include filing documents on your behalf.

  • It does not include showing up at hearings or appointments for you.

  • It does not include communicating with agencies, schools, landlords, opposing parties, or anyone else on your behalf - we cannot speak for you or represent you in those spaces.

  • It does not include litigation - which means we cannot take a case to court for you or fight a legal battle on your behalf.

  • It does not include appeals - which means if a decision has already been made and you want to challenge it formally, that process is outside what we can offer here.

  • It does not include emergency legal intervention - meaning if something needs immediate legal action right now, this is not the right resource for that moment. Please contact emergency services, your shelter staff, or a crisis provider if you are in an urgent situation.

  • It does not include ongoing representation - meaning we cannot be your lawyer long-term unless that is separately agreed to in writing.

WHAT NISEY’S NURTURE NETWORK IS NOT

We want to be honest with you about what NNN is and is not - so you know exactly what to expect before you reach out.

  • NNN is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or need help right now, please contact emergency services, your shelter staff, a crisis provider, or a medical provider right away. NNN is not equipped to respond to emergencies and cannot be your first call in a crisis.

  • NNN is not a 24/7 hotline. There is no one available around the clock. Responses take time, and that is something we want you to know upfront so you are not left waiting in an urgent moment without another plan.

  • NNN is not a shelter provider. We cannot place you in housing or connect you to a shelter bed directly. If you need shelter, please reach out to a shelter provider or housing resource in your area.

  • NNN is not a food pantry or emergency food assistance program. We do not provide grocery boxes, emergency food bags, or ongoing meal delivery. Food-related support through NNN happens only through scheduled community pop-ups - not on demand or in emergency situations.

  • NNN is not a crisis response or mental health treatment program. We are not therapists, counselors, or crisis workers. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please reach out to a mental health provider or crisis line that is equipped to support you in that moment.

  • NNN is not a case management agency. We do not manage your case, track your progress across systems, or coordinate services on your behalf the way a caseworker or social worker would.

  • NNN is not a substitute for legal aid, social services, medical care, mental health care, shelter services, or emergency assistance. If you need any of those things, we will do our best to help point you in the right direction - but NNN cannot replace them.

  • We also cannot guarantee specific outcomes. This means we cannot promise shelter placement, benefits approval, legal outcomes, housing access, mental health treatment, food access, or that services will be available on an ongoing basis.

  • If you are in immediate danger or need emergency help right now - please do not wait. Contact emergency services, shelter staff, a crisis provider, a medical provider, or another emergency support right away. Your safety comes first.

Legal services offered through Nisey's Nurture Network is a limited capacity program. That means we can only help a certain number of people at a time - and when those spots are full, we may need to pause until space opens up again.

If we are not able to help you right now, we will tell you that clearly and honestly. We will not just leave you hanging.

We will do our best to point you toward somewhere or someone that may be able to help in the meantime

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Bringing Legal Knowledge to Your Community

Understanding basic legal concepts should not feel like a privilege. When people know what to look for - in a document, in a process, in a life transition - they are better equipped to protect themselves, their families, and the things they have worked hard to build.

Lewis Legacy Law Studio is available for community education engagements that bring plain-language legal knowledge directly to the people and organizations that need it most.

What This Looks Like

Community education through Lewis Legacy Law Studio may include workshops, speaking engagements, panels, school visits, and nonprofit or organizational trainings. Topics are tailored to your audience and may include:

Estate planning basics - understanding wills, health care proxies, and why planning ahead matters before a crisis forces the issue.

Special education navigation - helping parents and caregivers understand IEPs, 504 plans, and how to show up prepared and informed in school meetings.

Turning 18 legal planning - what changes legally when a young adult turns 18 and what documents may help families stay connected and prepared.

Plain-language document guidance - understanding what you are signing, what terms to look for, and what questions to ask before committing to anything in writing.

Business formation basics - what solopreneurs and small business owners need to know about structure, contracts, and legal foundation before they need it.

Public benefits navigation - understanding what programs may be available, how paperwork works, and how to approach the process with more confidence.

Tenant succession rights - understanding what rights tenants may have and what documentation may matter.
